We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to keep Bobcat employees and their loved ones happy and healthy throughout their employment at TXST. Explore our benefits offerings below or view our overview brochure



Affordable Group Insurance

Through Employees Retirement System (ERS), full-time TXST employees receive medical insurance (including prescription coverage) at no cost on day one of employment! We also contribute 50% premium coverage for dependents of full-time employees. Optional insurance coverage can be added including:

  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Optional Live Insurance
  • Dependent Life Insurance
  • Short & Long Term Disability 

Holidays and Paid Leave

Employees can use a variety of leave types as needed such as:

  • Vacation (staff only)
    • Full-time employees earn 8 vacation hours per month. Monthly allotment of vacation hours can increase (up to 21 hours per month) as your years of state service increase.
  • Sick Leave
    • Earn 8 hours of sick leave per month with no maximum accrual.
  • Holidays
    • TXST acknowledges up to 15 fiscal holidays per year. Visit the Holiday Schedule for specific holiday and university closure dates.
  • Paid Wellness Leave
    • Employees can use up to 2.5 hours of wellness leave per week with supervisory approval. Visit UPPS 04.04.30 for more details.

Flexible Retirement Plans

Employees are automatically enrolled in Teacher Retirement System (TRS). Effective 9.1.2023, the tax-deferred contribution rate is 8.25% with TXST also contributing 8.25%. 

Full-time faculty and certain staff can enroll in an Optional Retirement Program (ORP) in lieu of TRS and have 90 days from their start date to make this one-time decision. If you're interested in enrolling in an ORP, please explore our approved ORP vendors.


Educational Support

We support the continuous learning and development of our Bobcat employees and their dependent children. As outlined in UPPS 04.04.35, our Talent Development & Communications team coordinates the following educational support programs:

Longevity Pay

Regular TXST staff are eligible for several types of pay and incentives including:

  • University Longevity Pay 
    • Each regular staff employee* is entitled to receive a 1.5 percent increase every two years up to a maximum of four such increases from each appropriate eligibility date.
  • State Longevity Pay
    • Each regular full-time staff employee is entitled to longevity pay of $20 per month for each two years of service as an employee of the State of Texas (up to 42 years of service).

*Please note: Certain positions are not eligible for University Longevity Pay increases per UPPS 04.04.11.

Fringe benefits are forms of compensation provided to employees outside of the set wage or salary. For example, medical and dental insurance, vacation pay, sick pay, etc. This tool is provided to assist account managers with budgeting.
